HICKS - is the answer you are looking for if you had worked out how to orientate and move the map around the monument for the Cotswold Way.
Sir Baptist Hicks had close Royal ties, lending money to James I and friend to Charles I. He was once Major of London and First Lord of Campden, a title he acquired in 1608 with the purchase of the Manor of Chipping Campden. During the English Civil War his own home was burnt to the ground to prevent it falling into the hands of Parliamentary forces.
During his life he delivered many charitable projects in the town including building the Alms houses on Church Rd and the Market Hall you see in the centre. He is buried in the nearby St James Church.
